He spread his fingers and placed them lightly over her eyes, against her face. Interrupted by the slight weight of him straddling her midsection, the woman halted her imitation of restful sleep, lifting her lids to look at him through a forest of fingers, each a tiny sensation of touching warmth. The man grinned down at her, his faced amused and lightly touched with a sense of endearing teasing of her good, wholesome, nature.

With a sudden flick of her thin body, lithe and spritely as it was, she had knocked him over, pulling him to the ground as she turned, and was now on top of him, grinning maliciously.

Without warning, a noise sprung into life in the next room, the sound of a running creek and the pair froze. Facing him, the woman lowered her body down onto his, so their faces were almost touching, and they became silent. Then, with even less warning, a furred intruder leap on the woman’s back and attacked her with the relentless kneading of happy, clawed paws.

Marianne’s face fell forward, arching over his shoulder as the weight of her body on his, while light, had started to compress his breathing some. Her body racked with silent giggles as she tried to without laughing out loud, to avoid the cat really digging in with its show of love and adoration, Sid could hear her choked laughter, trapped within her throat.

The pair lay on the floor together, the man squished between the wooden floorboards and his wife’s body, both of them still and unmoving until the cat slunk away. It began to mew to be fed, and all the while, the sound of the creek continued playing from unseen speakers, elsewhere. The couple they were house sitting for said it did turn on the CD player sometimes in its adventuring around the entertainment system, but the inspiration for surprise had still been there nonetheless.
